NEWS as of January 2009:

The WOTFAQ will soon be under new management.

Jason Denzel, proprietor of Dragonmount and all-around cool guy, will be taking over the FAQ and incorporating it into his website. His plan is to update the FAQ for Knife of Dreams in time for the release of A Memory of Light, the 12th and final novel of the series, this fall.

In the meantime, the current version of the FAQ will remain up here. More information will be posted here and at Dragonmount as it develops.

FAQs about the FAQ

How come you didn't do the update yourself? Why did this take so long? Why do you suck so much?

There is a long, complicated, and boring story behind why the WOTFAQ never got updated for Knife of Dreams, but the shortest version is, the Usenet group rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan, for which the WOTFAQ was created and from which the FAQ drew 99% of its material for theories and discussion, died.

It still exists, technically, but it is little more than a ghost town now, and has been that way for years.

The demise of the newsgroup also coincided with my own life going essentially insane, necessitating (among other things) a severe reorganization of my priorities. In short, with the community it was designed to serve gone, and the unavoidable reality of a vast reduction in the time I had to devote to it, I made the decision that updating the FAQ was simply not going to be something I could do.

I regret that it had to be this way, but I do not apologize for it. You don't need all the gory details, but I know that it was the right decision to make for me at that time.

All that being said, I am still very proud of the FAQ, and am aware that it was (and is) used by a larger community than the (ex)denizens of rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan, so when Jason contacted me and inquired about the possibility of taking over the FAQ, I was thrilled to say yes. I wouldn't have entrusted this thing to just anybody, and I feel sure Jason and his minions cohorts will maintain the WOTFAQ's standard of excellence admirably.

Will you still be involved with the update?

I'm not sure yet. Probably only peripherally, as I will be working on another WOT-related project: The Wheel of Time Re-read, a blog series hosted by Tor.com. It is scheduled to begin on January 19th, 2009; come by and participate if you're so inclined.

Okay. Now, what's the deal with the email?

You can take it as a given that any email addresses listed on this version of the FAQ are essentially defunct.

But I still have all these theories! Where should I send them?

Jason is still hashing out the details on that; for now, if I were you I'd keep an eye on Dragonmount for news on that front.

Got it. Now can I read this thing already?

Knock yourself out.

Enjoy, and thanks for reading the WOTFAQ!
