For those of you who can't deal with reading anything longer than a page, or
whose feeble minds can't follow long discussions, the WOT FAQ Board of Trustees
presents:
THE WHEEL OF TIME FAQ, CONDENSED VERSION
Copyright P. Korda and L. Butler. Do not steal.
Disclaimer: This condensed version is intended for people who don't want to
bother with actually thinking about anything. Therefore, the remarks about the
FAQ being a compendium of discussions does not apply to this document. Answers
are provided, although the author cannot guarantee the accuracy of those
answers. Anybody interested in thorough analysis should look at the full
version of the FAQ (http://linuxmafia.com/jordan/)
or the UK mirror (http://www.arkane-systems.net/faqs/WOTFAQ/).
SECTION 0: ADMINISTRIVIA
Lie down and don't think of Roy. RJ = James Oliver Rigney. WOT Index: (http://www.ece.umd.edu/~dilli/WOT/WOTindex/).
Write RJ care of Tor.
SECTION 1: THE DARK SIDE
Mesaana is in the White Tower; we don't know who she is. Silvie was Lanfear.
Sammael is D-E-D dead. Taim is not Demandred. Graendal or Lanfear or Slayer
killed Asmodean; Moridishy is an outside possibility (but Asmodean is dead and
won't come back). Ish was not fully bound and was active at many points during
the 3rd age. Semirhage is Anath.
Aran'gar was Balthamel, Osan'gar was Aginor and Dashiva. Moridin was Ishamael.
Cyndane was Lanfear.
The black threads on the male Forsaken are their connection to the DO. When BA
become BA, they remove the original Three Oaths and replace them with three new
Oaths, using the OR. The seals have nothing to do with the Taint. Warders can
be DFs, but they don't have to be. Slayer is a combo of Isam (Lan's cousin) and
Luc (Tigraine's brother). He cannot channel. We don't know who his boss is.
Shaidar Haran is the DO's avatar. The attack on Demira was arranged by Taim.
Moggy was raped by Shaidar Haran. We don't know who killed Adeleas and Ispan,
but Vandene is the most likely suspect. The "don't kill Rand" order was revoked
in TPOD. The FS aren't complete dumbasses. Rand is walking into a trap.
Aram is probably not a DF. Moiraine and Elaida are not BA. Taim probably is a
DF.
Gholam are hard to kill. The ghosts might be dead Darkfriends. The Darkhounds
are made from corrupted wolf souls.
Fain is not the Dark One. Mordeth, Mashadar, and Machin Shin are all different
things, but none are gholam.
SECTION 2: THINGS NOT NECESSARILY OF THE DARK
Tuon likes Mat's ring a lot. Mat's luck has nothing to do with the dice
ter'angreal. Mat is still linked to the Horn. Most of Mat's memories are taken
from other men. LTT in Rand's head is partly due to past-life memories and
partly due to Rand going mad from the Taint. The third man may be another
Dragon. Aludra's going to help Mat make cannon.
Thom can't channel. Gawyn is a psycho. Noal is the barrel geezer. Setalle Anan
is a burned-out Aes Sedai. Gaidal Cain is not Olver. Moiraine is not dead.
Verin is mysterious. Tuon can channel.
Being bound by the Oath Rod causes the Ageless Look, and shortens one's
lifespan. You can make horizontal Gateways. Balefire does not destroy a soul
forever. Mat's medallion works against direct flows of both saidin and saidar,
but is ineffective against indirect effects of OP flows. Involuntary rings are
a'dam links. The OP problem in Ebou Dar was caused by the Weather Bowl.
Cadsuane's hair ornaments are angreal and ter'angreal. Get a man to Heal
stilling and a woman to Heal gentling. Shadar Logoth evil ate the Taint. Saidar
is not weakening.
Beidomon was Lanfear's grad student. LTT did not balefire himself. Noal is
probably Jain Farstrider. Although Ogier are peaceful now, they were fierce
warriors during the AOL. The Sharom was not the DO's prison. Tigraine ran off
to the Aiel Waste and became Shaiel, Rand's mother. The Vileness was a Black
Ajah conspiracy to hunt down and find and kill (or gentle) the Dragon Reborn
before the Last Battle.
Elayne and Rand are unrelated. Juilan is in love with ex-Panarch Amathera. Thom
and Moiraine will get married. Aviendha is not pregnant. Mat and Tuon are
half-married.
Narishma used Callandor. The Finn are weird. There are lots of armies. We don't
know who betrayed Egwene.
SECTION 3: SOURCES
RJ stole the entire plot of TWOT from _Dune_. Evidence: both series have sand.
SECTION 4: PROPHECY
This section has been omitted from the Condensed FAQ since it is long, and not
easily summarized in a short paragraph.
SECTION 99: PUBLISHING STUFF
We don't know yet when the next book will be out, but early 2005 seems
reasonable.
